ANNOUNCEMENTS
SPAY AND NEUTER CLINICS
- The POP-NC (Pet Over-Population in NC) affordable spay and neuter mobile clinic will be at the Animal Shelter on February 9, and March 1, 2012.  Please call POP-NC at 919.942.2250 to schedule an appointment to bring your pet. 

Nash County Rabies Clinic - April 5, 2012, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. at the Nash County Animal Shelter.  $5.00 per animal (dogs and cats).  One year tags will be issued.  For a three year tag to be issued, proof of previous vaccination is required.

VOLUNTEER INFORMATION

FEES
Adoption:     $20 (New owners are responsible for rabies vaccination of all adopted dogs, cats and ferrets over 4 months old.)
Reclaim:      $25 + $5/day (Boarding)

Emergencies Include:   An animal biting a human; an injured animal; dogs actively chasing livestock; rabid animal or a vicious dog.

NASH COUNTY ANIMAL ORDINANCE

This ordinance requires all dogs and cats have to have I.D. and regulates animal behavior.  (Click here to view the Nash County Animal Ordinance.)  Animals are considered a nusinance if they:

  • damage property
  • molest passersby, including cars and bikes
  • demonstrate REPEATED barking, howling
  • are kept in unsanitary conditions in a pen (odors)
  • are defecating in other yards
  • attack other domestic animals


FILING COMPLAINTS
All NUISANCE complaints are to be in writing and signed by the complainant:

  • A letter describing the problem and identifying the animal and owner, or,
  • A form available from Animal Control


THE COMPLAINT PROCESS

When a written complaint is received about a violation of the ordinance, an officer is dispatched to investigate the complaint. If a violation is confirmed, an oral warning to stop the violation is given to the owner. If another complaint is received  and confirmed about the same violation, a written warning is issued. A third confirmed complaint will result in a civil fine, to be paid to the Nash County Health Department.
