Nash County Health Department provides a Diabetes Educator to assist residents with managing their diabetes. The Diabetes Educator can receive referrals from physicians or an individual may call and make an appointment for counseling. The Diabetes Educator can guide clients in developing a diet plan which will help manage blood sugars, she can assist clients in managing sick days, she can teach about proper foot care, she can answer questions about daily blood sugar testing, and she can work with physicians to plan a medication regime which will best control individual diabetes cases.
The dietitian will need recent lab work to best counsel clients. This can be faxed ((252) 459-9834 or (252) 985-4539) or mailed to the health department prior to the appointment.
The dietitian uses protocols developed by the American Diabetes Association, including ADA Patterns of Care, in providing direction for clients.
