Family Planning Clinic

The goal of Family Planning Clinic is to provide clients with information they need to:

  • make informed decisions about family planning
  • use a specific method of contraception correctly
  • understand the procedures involved in the family planning clinic visit

The Family Planning program provides information and a means to achieve child spacing and planned family size.  Family Planning clients are offered initial counseling, an explanation of procedures, and educational materials.  A family planning clinic visit includes a complete medical history, lab work (urine and blood tests for anemia, syphilis, and other infections), a breast exam, a pelvic exam, a pap smear to check for cancer, and an evaluation for infectious diseases.

The clinic staff will provide you with a method of your choice and instructions on how to use it. Contraceptive methods available include Norplant, Diaphragm, Depo Provera, IUD (Intrauterine Device), Natural Family Planning, Birth Control Pills, Emergency Contraceptive Pills, Foam, and Condoms. If you are a new patient, we will provide you with information about the various types of contraceptives that we offer.

You may not be planning a pregnancy now, but someday perhaps you will. To help increase your chances of having healthier children in years to come:

  • eat right--be sure to get 400 mcg of folic acid every day.
  • exercise regularly
  • avoid poor health habits such as cigarette smoking, alcohol use, and drug use
  • space at least 2 years between pregnancies
