Nash County Solid Waste Convenience Centers

The solid waste program assures safe collection, storage and disposal of our community's trash. It operates a disposal site for construction and demolition waste, provides and staffs 9 collection/recycling sites throughout the county for rural trash deposits and, investigates complaints concerning solid waste violations.

We now recycle cooking oil at all of our Convenience Centers in Nash County. Please recycle your cooking oils.

 

READABLE BOOKSREADABLE BOOKS
Another item we can take out of our waste stream - READABLE BOOKS can now be put in the clothes and shoes RECYCLING bin.

 

PLASTIC BAG RECYCLINGPLASTIC BAG RECYCLING
The American Chemistry Council has launched a new campaign in North Carolina to help the public learn how and where to recycle plastic bags. The campaign features a Recycle Location Finder listing close to 1,200 retail and grocery drop-sites for the bags in North Carolina. Take advantage of this initiative to increase plastic bag recycling in your community.

 

RECYCLE VACCUM CLEANERSRECYCLE VACUUM CLEANERS
We are now accepting vacuum cleaners at all of our Convenience Centers except site 4
(Vicks Center in Nashville) on Hwy 58 . Vacuum cleaners can be deposited with electronics.

 

 

Cellular Recycler ProgramCELL PHONE RECYCLING
The Nash County Senior Center offers a Cellular Recycler program. If you (or someone you know) received a new cell phone this holiday season, please consider recycling. You may drop your old phone off at the Senior Center.

 

 

There is a ban on plastic bottles, wooden pallets and oil filters.

Frequently Asked Questions Concerning Plastic Bottle Disposal

These items cannot be disposed of in the trash. They must be RECYCLED.

  • Oil Filters can be taken at Convenience Centers 1, Middlesex , 2, Spring Hope ,3, Strickland , 5, Old Carriage Rd., 6, Drake, 7, Landfill , 8, Salem, and 9, Aventon
  • Wooden Pallets can be brought to the above site as well for RECYCLING. If more than 10 items they should be brought directly to the landfill for RECYCLING.

North Carolina residents are strongly encouraged to recycle spent fluorescent lights and Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs) from their homes. Resources are provided to help citizens find the option that is most convenient for them.

Bring your old refrigerator to 3057 Duke Road, Nashville.'White Goods' Disposal Plan
All appliances that contain or have contained Freon must be taken to the Nash County landfill located at 3057 Duke Rd, Nashville 27856  Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. These items may then be left for disposal at the landfill. This is a FREE service!

All other appliances can be taken to a convenience center.

Bring your old computer to 3057 Duke Road, Nashville.***Computer Recycling***
Effective immediately the Nash County Landfill is accepting computers for recycling.
Computers are now accepted at site 1 (Middlesex) site 2 (Spring Hope) site 5 (Old Carriage Rd.) site 6 (Drake) and at the landfill located 3057 Duke Rd. The hours are Monday thru Friday 8:00 am to 4:30pm

 

Bring your old antifreeze to 3057 Duke Road, Nashville.***Tank for Antifreeze***
Now at Site Seven (3057 Duke Rd., Nashville) rural Nash County citizens may deposit their old antifreeze in the storage tank.

 

 

***Nash County’s Landfill accepts old or abandoned mobile homes free of charge!  Call for details!***

In an effort to clean up our beautiful community, Nash County will now remove junk and abandoned vehicles at no cost. Vehicles must be located in the unincorporated areas of Nash County. Complete this application and fax it to the Nash County Planning Department at 252-459-1381 or mail it to: Nash County Planning Department, 120 West Washington St., Suite 2110, Nashville, NC 27856. Types of WASTE NOT ACCEPTED at Convenience Centers

  • Agricultural Waste
  • Liquid & Hazardous Waste
  • Industrial Waste
  • Institutional Waste
  • Municipal Waste

Vick Site #4 on Hwy 58 is NOT permitted to accept used oil or batteries due to the fact it is too close to Sapony Creek which in turn empties into the Tar River Reservoir.

Residents using the County Solid Waste Convenience Centers must comply with the following rules for disposal of household waste:

  • Household garbage must be bagged
  • Burning or smoldering materials may not be disposed of at these sites
  • NO TIRES may be accepted at any convenience center other than Stoney Hill, Site #1, Middlesex and the Nash County Landfill.
  • No bricks, large stumps, logs, concrete, shingles, animal carcasses, animal waste or auto parts are accepted at the convenience centers

Materials accepted at convenience sites:

  • Bagged household waste
  • Bulky items such as: couch, bed mattress, table, chairs, furniture
  • Yard Waste, small limbs, clippings, no rocks, wood wire etc., mixed in debris
  • White goods, all appliances and air conditioners
  • Newspapers
  • Corrugated cardboard
  • Glass (1) Clear, (2) Green, (3) Brown (Separated)
  • Steel and Aluminum Cans
  • Plastic milk jugs and drink bottles
  • Used Batteries
  • Used Motor Oil

Construction and demolition waste can also be taken to Nash County Landfill.

Rural Citizens only!! No Commercial Contractors.
