When Do I Need a Permit from Nash County?

BUILDING PERMIT FORMS

For properties located anywhere in Nash County except for the City of Rocky Mount and its extraterritorial jurisdictions, permits are required to be secured from the Nash County inspections department for the following:

  1. The construction, reconstruction, alteration, repair, movement to another site, removal or demolition of any building.  (residential accessory buildings no larger than 12’ x 12’ (144 sq. ft.) do not require a building permit).
  2. The installation, extension, or change in design of any plumbing system.
  3. The installation, extension, or change in design of any mechanical system (heating, cooling, air ducts, & fuel gas piping).
  4. The installation, extension, alteration or general repair of any electrical wiring, devices, appliances or equipment.

There is a $150 fee for starting work without a permit.
