How do I apply for a pistol permit?
Individuals who have lived in Nash County for a minimum of one year may apply for a pistol permit by coming to the first floor of the Sheriff's Office and completing an application with the Civil Clerk. Applications are accepted Monday through Friday, 8 AM - 5 PM. Applicants must bring either a NC Driver's License or NC issed ID Card, at the time of the application. No other forms of identification will be accepted. Applicants must either be personally known by an area law enforcement officer, or provide two letters of reference from non-relatives. Applications take approximately ten (10) working days to process.
How much does a pistol permit cost?
The cost is $5.00 per permit. Applicants may obtain a maximum of five permits per year.

Though your Jury Duty notice is mailed by the Sheriff's Office, your name is selected randomly and sent to us from the Clerk of Court's office. Your name may have been selected from Division of Motor Vehicle files, tax records or other documents.

How can I get excused from Jury Duty?
The Sheriff's Office cannot excuse anyone from Jury Duty. A judge is the only one who may excuse someone from Jury Duty. A person 65 years of age or older may automatically request to be excused from Jury Duty, if they wish.

How do I obtain an involuntary commitment order?
An involuntary commitment is not issued by the Sheriff's Office. Commitment orders are issued by a magistrate or other judicial official. Once the order has been received by the Sheriff's Office, immediate service will be attempted. Once served, the individual is transported by local law enforcement to the nearest medical/mental health facility for evaluation by qualified medical/mental health personnel. After evaluation, if medical/mental health personnel determine that the individual is to be committed, the Sheriff's Office will provide transportation to the designated mental health facility.
