The Highway Enforcement Awareness Team is funded by the North Carolina Governor's Highway Safety Program and Nash County.  The team consists of one Sergeant and three deputies.  The Traffic Unit assists other members of the Nash County Sheriff's Office along with other state and local Law Enforcement Agencies in reducing crime.  The Traffic Unit attempts to reduce the number of traffic crashes and traffic related injuries in Nash County by the use of radar and traffic enforcement.  The unit conducts public service announcements related to highway safety, conducts sobriety checkpoints, child restraint clinics and school-based safety education presentations.  The unit also conducts safety education presentations in the Hispanic communities.  The unit also serves warrants, civil process and answers calls for service throughout Nash County as needed.
