PROPOSED SANDERSON FARMS PROJECT - WASTEWATER IMPROVEMENTS DRAFT ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT (DEIS) Nash County has recently contracted with a Raleigh based engineering consulting firm "The Wooten Company" to evaluate the primary, secondary, and cumulative impacts of the proposed Sanderson Farms processing plant being considered in Nash County. This report is being prepared for the purpose of applying for federal Economic Development Administration (EDA) funds for the purpose of constructing wastewater improvements necessary for this project. The results of this draft report indicate that the proposed project will not have appreciable environment impacts on Nash or surrounding counties. Potential environmental concerns will be mitigated through an extensive permitting process through NC DENR and other regulatory agencies. On Friday March 18, 2011, this DEIS was submitted to the State Clearinghouse in the Dept of Administration for local and state agencies review and comments. Nash County is also seeking comments from the federal agencies and the public concerning items which need to be addressed or further described in the environmental document. Please review the DEIS prior to submitting comments in order to be considered. Note that this electronic document is extremely large; therefore, hard copies of this report are also available for review during normal county business hours at the Claude Mayo, Jr. Administration Building at 120 W.
