Police officers and patrol cars in front of buildingDeputy Sheriff Recruits
To become a Deputy Sheriff, you must:
  • Be a Nash County resident (or be willing to relocate to Nash County)
  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Be of good moral character with positive credit history
  • Have a minimum of a high school education (college preferred)
  • Never been charged or convicted of a felony or serious misdemeanor
  • Be physically fit 
  • Possess or be able to obtain a North Carolina Law Enforcement Certification from the North Carolina Sheriff's Training and Standards Division

Detention Officer Recruits
To become a Detention Officer, you must:
  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Be of good moral character with positive credit history
  • Have a minimum of a high school education
  • Never been charged or convicted of a felony or serious misdemeanor
  • Possess or be able to obtain a North Carolina Detention Officer Certification within one year of hire from the North Carolina Sheriff's Training and Standards Division

Positions at the Sheriff's Office tend to open and fill very quickly. You may pick up an application from the first floor of the Sheriff's Office Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. If you would like more information, contact 252-459-1580.
