Building Inspections
Responsibilities
The Permitting and Inspections Division of Planning and Development is responsible for:
  • Enforcement of the NC State Building Codes within the county's territorial jurisdiction. Including other local building laws and ordinances.
  • Regulating the construction of buildings and the installation of Plumbing, Electrical, Gas, and Heating Ventilation & Air Conditioning systems

Additional Duties
Aside from the main responsibilities, the division is also in charge of:
  • Reviewing construction plans
  • Receiving applications for permits and issuing or denying permits
  • Making necessary inspections
  • Issuing or denying certificates of compliance
  • Issuing orders to correct violations
  • Keeping adequate records
  • Taking any other actions that may be required to adequately enforce laws, ordinances, and regulations
